Reset C7350 by kereru (2/27/08 12:31 PM) reply Reply to Anonymous 2/27/08 Resetting consumables for OKI C7500 printer (and some other C7000 series and C9000 series). 1. Hold buttons 0 + 1 + 6 + 7 on startup ("menu" + "item+" + "value-" + "cancel" buttons). For C7400 printer press 1 + 5 on startup. Other models may have another button sequence. 2. Press button 0 several times until "DIAGNOSTIC MODE xx.xx.xx" shows. 3. Hold buttons 2 + 3 until "ENGINE DIAG LEVEL 4" shows. 4. Press button 1 to scroll to "COUNTER SET". 5. Press button 2 to scroll through menu items. (Button 6 scrolls backwards) 6. To alter the value of an item, first press button 3 to select the digit to be altered. The selected digit will slowly flash. (Button 3 moves to the right through the digits. Button 7 takes you to the left.) 7. Then press button 2 to increase the value of the selected digit. Press button 6 to decrease the value. 8. When the changes have been made, hold buttons 1 + 3 + 5 together. The screen will flash three times and then an * will appear on the right of the screen. The new value is set. 9. To leave the counter set menus, turn the printer off. NOTES: An "ID" unit is an imaging drum. The life used (shown as pages) doesn't need to be changed. Instead you change the "life limit" to get more use out of the drum. The default figure is 20,000 pages. If you are careful with your drums and keep light away from them they should easily last to 40,000 pages and beyond. When replacing toners or clearing jambs, have the lid open for the minimum time possible. And NEVER allow direct sunlight onto the printer. In Diagnostic Mode the toner counter shows the life as a percentage used. A toner showing 30% has used up 30% of its toner, and 100% shows 100% of the toner is used (a near empty toner). But the printer only estimates the amount of toner used, so an “empty” toner will still have a reasonable amount of toner inside. I suggest re-setting a 100% (empty) toner back down to 90% (rather than zero), and then writing the reset details in felt-tip marker on the toner cartridge. You’ll learn how much extra life can be gained from the toners, and have some idea of when the toner will actually run out. It will also remind you weeks later that you have already reset the toner. Another way of getting more life is to remove the toner and give it some taps on the side. Any toner hung up on the sides of the cartridge will drop down into the bottom. It also spreads the toner evenly along the cartridge, as the toner tends to run out on one part of a page first. Hold a finger over the stirrer port on the left of the cartridge to stop toner dropping on you clothing. AN IMPORTANT NOTE: The toner life shown in Diagnostic Mode is opposite to that shown in the Usage Menu when the printer is in normal operation. The usage menu shows the toners as a percentage life remaining, so 100% means a full toner. In Diagnostic mode 100% means an empty toner. Very confusing.... Neale Blaymires New Zealand Hi, We have a customer who has a Oki C7350 that has started showing Cyan Toner Low/Empty even after replacing for a new toner. The toners are all original toners and are not refilled yet the message still occurs. This has been coupled with the Fatal Error 142 message. After checking past messages on here i can see that the two must be linked as the 142 error is the cyan sensor. I tried popping up the sensor and checked the springs and they seemed fine. I have seen that you can do the menu procedure to clear the toner levels etc but i dont want to do this as the fatal error will still happen. Can anybody tell me what i need to do to get rid of the error and if this will also stop the Toner empty messages?? Thanks, Nick From my OKI Maintenance Manual, an error code 142 is listed as "Error detected at proper ID position" (cyan), so the problem will be with the imaging drum (ID unit) rather than with the toner cartridge. The most likely cause is poor contact with the electrical pins which communicate with the imaging drum. Remove the drum and wipe the pins & contacts both on the drum unit and inside the printer body. There are two sets of pins on the left and right of the printer. Fine toner powder floats all through the printer and can foul up electrical contacts. Be careful when doing this to keep light exposure to the imaging drum to a minimum. If the 142 error code has now gone away, the next issue is resetting the counter for the cyan toner cartridge. When a new toner cartridge is fitted into C7000 series printers, the printer detects the toner is new by a temporary slackness in the drive mechanism when the toner stirrer first engages (I've never been able to work out exactly how). When it detects the toner is new, the printer re-sets the toner counter back to 100% (i.e. a full toner). If the counter doesn't re-set when the toner is first fitted you will have to have to go into the diagnostic menu to reset it. See my instructions earlier on in this forum: Reset C7350 by kereru (2/27/08 12:31 PM) One important note. In the maintenance menu the new toner is set at 00%, however in the usage menu the new toner will show as 100%. Very confusing. While you are in the maintenance menu, I would suggest changing the life limits for the ID units (imaging drums) to 40,000 pages, rather than the standard 20,000 pages. They will easily last double the rated life. Another note. When the printer says the toners are empty it has a 'limp home mode', where powering the printer off and back on allows the user to print a few more pages. And another note. The OKI printer literally counts every dot of toner used to estimate how much toner is used, rather than physically sensing the toner level, to calculate the percentage of toner given in the usage menu. An 'empty' toner (showing 0% in the usage menu) will often have up to 10% of its toner remaining because the printer only estimates the amount used. However... the C7000 series printers also have a physical toner level sensor which is used to give a low toner warning, but as far as I've been able to work out this sensor has no impact on the toner percentage shown in the usage menu. These physical sensors often act up, and my printer is always showing low toner warnings or toner sensor errors. They can be ignored. Hope this helps.
